GOM.exe is the executable for GOM Player. It is a media player, for audio and video (either or both). It is free, but still a safe, reliable program. It does not seem to be a memory-hog. I have only had problems with it rarely, if ever. I highly recommend it. The biggest system-stability issue that I could foresee to be likely from this program, would actually be from a not-so-solid codec or perhaps a corrupted audio/video file.
