The HWAPI.exe process is a part of McAfee Hacker Watch Service, which is installed alongside with the McAfee Internet Security suite. It is responsible for updating any suspected hacker attack that you reported to the McAfee HackerWatch service.

The HWAPI.exe process is a non-essential file for the system performance. Keeping it or removing it is down to user's preferences. If you have Mcafee virus protection installed, you will see this running in the task list. Occasionally, this process occupies large memory from 30Mb to 50Mb. For this problem, we recommend you to turn off unnecessary fetures of McAfee Hacker Watch Service and set it to manual mode at startup.
