NMSAccessU.exe

Flie Name: NMSAccessU.exe Product:
Author: NuMedia Soft, Inc. Security Rating:

File NMSAccessU.exe is not a Windows system process. It is a process which belongs to DburnerXP background service for allowing non-admins to access CD/DVD devices and burn discs. The service will provide CD/DVD access for any user under NT/XP/2000 regardless of Security Policies. The NMSAccessU.exe process has no file description and no visible window, but it is required by third-party software or hardware and should not disabled. It must only be used on NT4/2000/XP systems (Not Windows 98/ME/95). Users must have Administrative Rights to install or remove the service. After installation, every time the machine boots, NMSAccess.exe will start automatically as needed.

Other instance of NMSAccessU.exe:

Some malware camouflage themselves as NMSAccessU.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus, if NMSAccessU.exe has negative influence on your PC performance, you need to check the NMSAccessU.exe process whether it is disguised by a virus.

Recommendation:

NMSAccessU.exe is not a Windows core file, but it should not be terminated as it provides CD/DVD access for any user under Windows 2000/XP. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection.

I totally agree with people reporting it as part SyncBack installation. SyncBack is a sync utility developed by 2BrightSparks in various flavors and I use the Pro one. SyncBack forum does tell this about NMSAccessU.exe: It is a Windows service that is used to backup to CD/DVD without Administrator privileges. This is installed to \\Windows\\System32 (\\Windows\\SysWOW64 on 64-bit Windows). In fact I learned about its existence when SyncBackPro Update Utility asked me to allow it to terminate this process in order to continue the update process. So, this program is digitally signed and credited to Numedia Soft. It is used by my favorite sync utility that I actually trust. Well I can say I am pretty sure it\'s safe

I am a software engineer and have installed Syncback Pro; this process exists on my XP machine almost certainly associated with syncback. Syncback is an exceptionally reliable backup program from a reputable company. I have not experienced problems that trace to this process.

Potentially dangerous (Read BlackCat comment). Possibly necessary depending on the program it came with, and what OS you are using.

If you un-check the option to allow all users, regardless of security level, to use CDBurnerXP, this process will not be installed.

Concerned Audiophile User
CDburnerXP background service component for allowing non-admins to burn discs. In recent versions of CDburnerXP, this may be prevented from installing by de-selecting the appropriate option in the setup/installer. I'm not entirely sure, but I think NMSAccess and/or NMSAccessU contribute to disk thrashing (accessing the operating system storage media too frequently). Users wanting a system optimized / tweaked for audio or visual performance will want to disable and/or prevent installation of NMSAccess due to the thrashing.
