spoolsv.exe

File Name: spoolsv.exe
Usefulness Rating:
The spoolsv.exe process is a main component of the printing interface for the Spooler SubSystem App or Windows Print Spooler Service. It is responsible for managing spooled print/fax jobs. It allows users to print in the background without PC being tied up and is also responsible for queuing printing tasks. When the printer is in use, the spoolsv.exe file is launched, and the process can be seen running in Windows Task Manager.
Recommendation:
The spoolsv.exe is the Print spooler for Windows 2000/XP. Leave this service running unless you never do any printing. If spoolsv.exe is not running, the Add Printer function will not work properly and no printers will be available. This spoolsv.exe is also extremely easily targeted by spyware & adware programs as well as worms and Trojans. The original program file will be found only in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In any other case or situation, especially where a file named spoolsv.exe exists in another folder, it is a virus, spyware, Trojan or worm.

This is a component of Microsoft Windows Printer Spooler Service. Microsoft Windows Printer Spooler Service manages all print and fax jobs that were directed using your computer. If located in system32, it's the Windows Print Spooler - which is safe and not a virus! If it's located somewhere else, it's most likely a trojan, trying to fake you with a bogus name.

Service systeme de windows pour la mise en cache des impressions. Indispensable si l'imprimante est partagee en reseau local. Par contre, ce service a fait l'objet d'attaques virales exploitant ses autorisation pour etre accessible meme au delà du reseau local.

the spooler holds info. it is the way MS solved the problem of multiple print quarries. It can be stopped in order to trim system resources if you do not plan on using a printer/fax. however, in order to use your printer again after ending the program you will have to restart your machine.
