PMB.exe

File Name: PMB.exe Product:
Author: Pando Networks Security Rating:

The PMB.exe process is Pando Media Booster, which is a downloader utility used by games online to download updates directly, rather than from the game company's server. It also enables your computer to get high downloading speed or streaming speed of very large files such as high-quality HDTV video, or giant games. Although the process has CPU issues sometimes, it is safe to users without malicious files. It can be removed through ‘add/remove programs’ in the Control Panel.

Recommendation:

PMB.exe is a downloader utility to speed up downloads. It causes no damage to PC performance. But spyware or virus would disguise themselves as it. Thus, make sure always check the location of the file and run anti-virus/malware software to scan and remove problems if there is any.

Giving lag spikes in gaming. Ex.you play and suddenly your ping increases for 150 for no reason. Lasts about 20 seconds then goes back to normal again. After 3 minutes, all over again. Not dangerous, but also not really useful. Try to locate installation folder and get rid of it ASAP, cause all it brings are troubles. Oh one more thing, install TCPView, this gets you full view over your incoming and outgoing connections. That's how I found it.

Firefox was laggy as hell and saw this in the processes, while it didnt use up a huge amount of memory it did rape my processor approx 50% usage. Did notice a slight lag issue with games. Malware or not? Who cares when your ISP is gonna send you a red letter, a huge bill and cut you off because this was running without your knowledge. And unfortunately, ignorance isn't an excuse for breaking the law/ your ISP's terms & conditions

Malware - Installed with gamersfirst software. Installs without any mention (hidden bundle with other installers) Runs on boot No UI or way to see it running except from task manager (or other process viewer) Leechs bandwidth (again with no warning). Use common ports and causes other programs to fail if they rely on the port

Came across it after installing LOTRO. I wasn't warned it would be installed, and it was causing my internet to act really slowly. Uninstalled it. Load of crap

PMB is PAndo media booster as said above. Although i thought it came with a computer, i would like to share a fact with you. As of right now i was downloading a game. I was half way through download, i deleted PMB from my processes. And my Kb/s while downloading DOUBLED. PMB is not a good program.

So I thought to myself one day. "Hmm I ain't played LOTRO in a while might as well download it and play again for old times sake". So I went and downloaded the game but guess what? The download came packaged with this peice of garbage that made my bloody fresh new P.C slow down like a windows ME thanks to PMB here using up to 51% of me damn CPU! Dangerous, stupid and just plain not worth it. Avoid it like a pop-up!

This is the worst piece of malware I have ever seen. It steals your bandwidth as soon as you start up your computer. It also causes online games like LOTRO to lag severely. I would tell anyone that has it in add/remove programs or programs and features to uninstall as soon as your game download and installation is completed. It is something that is not needed to play online games.

Got a letter last week that i uploaded 200 gig in one week which is twice the limit i'm allowed. It usualy takes me months to generate that amount of traffic since i limit my torrents etc. after a bit of research it turned out to be this useless program. Probably came with black prophecy and i'm a bit pissed that it started uploading with 1mb/s without my permission. get rid of it as soon as you can.

It consistently ate up bandwidth and memory, and really screwed up programs that were trying to run. Delete it if you see it. It's a sort of legitimized malware.

This program without warning you will use your bandwidth to help others download things (such as video streams or games). This program is not dangerous but should be uninstalled/blocked if you are not willing to share your bandwidth

Browser didnt open any pages, WoW didnt launch. Killed PMB.exe and everything worked fine again... Also had 500ms+ in WoW last night when it still worked (normal is 40-50ms). Such a nuisance...

P2P service, nothing to do with audio. Several games make you install this to help with VOIP, but it does NOTHING but upload/download data very insecurely and in very rare occasions. This is a very dangerous program with easily accessed back-doors capable of Keylogging, and Account-tracking. REMOVE is highly advised, particularly if you play WoW or use Online banking.

Saw it running after completing a LOL install (league of legends). Just going to end it, Ill uninstall it if need be but I doubt it will run again since LOL only used it to install... perhaps it will run when I play the game I dont know but PMB.exe isnt spy/malware on any level...its a file distribution network executive file and isnt needed for normal operating procedures in most cases.

It is a download streamer - for example I got it because of DDO download that was 4.3 GB. Just end the process if the download is done and nothing more to worry about.

This program while not technically malicious is garbage. When you are done downloading whatever (DDO LOTRO...) stop proccess and uninstall.
