PMB.exe

File Name: PMB.exe Product:
Author: Pando Networks Security Rating:

The PMB.exe process is Pando Media Booster, which is a downloader utility used by games online to download updates directly, rather than from the game company's server. It also enables your computer to get high downloading speed or streaming speed of very large files such as high-quality HDTV video, or giant games. Although the process has CPU issues sometimes, it is safe to users without malicious files. It can be removed through ‘add/remove programs’ in the Control Panel.

Recommendation:

PMB.exe is a downloader utility to speed up downloads. It causes no damage to PC performance. But spyware or virus would disguise themselves as it. Thus, make sure always check the location of the file and run anti-virus/malware software to scan and remove problems if there is any.

Users Opinions

Nugget.
You get it after downloading (large) gamefiles. It helps speed up that ONE download but you have it forever. Pando describes it as a UserInterface-less, transparent, background program. If that doesn't sound self-serving than I don't know what is. UNINSTALL after getting your download.

Cited from Pando's website: Will you use my computer to transfer other people’s stuff? Absolutely not. Pando Media Booster will only transfer pieces of media files you previously streamed or downloaded and will do so sparingly to ensure minimal use of your PC resources. This IS malware. A trojan using your (my) internet resources to share data you have downloaded with others but without your knowledge. I do usually know what Im doing on my computer but I didnt catch when this bugger did install. Mind you that might be all that it does, but its far enough for me to get rid of that soft.  More information

Doesn't seem to share any information. Greatly increases speed to game downloads over services such as fileplanet which distributes the same games at much slower speeds. Appears to use bittorrent like technology.

It may not be malicious but it is crapware. It is indeed a download streamer which you can "catch" if you download DDO. And once you're done downloading DDO, it starts an "idle"(?) process at each boot which eats 15 MB of RAM. All without making it clear that just because you used it once, it will thereafter be a weight on your cpu/memory usage. That is badly made software.

It is a download streamer - for example I got it because of DDO download that was 4.3 GB. Just end the process if the download is done and nothing more to worry about.

Until I closed PMB.exe I was unable to access anything in the iTunes store, because of the port use that was mentioned. It doesnt appear to be dangerous, just annoying.

I had to shut down this process in order to run Apache web service. It ties up port 443 which conflicts with apache

I was just browsing some news sites, no video file in sight and then I saw my upload spike. I do not like programs that run without a reason or me telling them to.

This is Pando Media Booster. This software enable your computer to get high-speed download or streaming of very large files such as high-quality HDTV video, or giant games and software titles using cloud delivery technology. It is totally safe and transparent to users - all files and processes are visible and it can be fully removed using \'add/remove programs\' in the control panel. There are no malicious files in it, nor can it be used to deliver them. Pando Networks is the maker of the software - this is a reputable technology brand, backed by Intel. PMB is used by companies such as NBC/Universal and Nexon. Earlier versions indeed had some CPU usage issues but the latest versions resolve it. You can contact Pando\'s customer support on their web site http://www.pandonetworks.com if you still have issues  More information

It doesn\'t damage the computer, but slows it down because it\'s over 50mb of your \"commit charge\"
