The aolsoftware.exe process is a part of the AOL Explorer, which is a free program to browse webpages, use tabs, customize your toolbar for favorites and rss feeds. This process may also exists as a part of  AOL Host Manager, which provides background support for the AOL Instant Messenger program and usually is installed alongside with the AOL 9.0 software.
