CPU hog, especially for gaming. Unable to set priority level. Impossible to play some games because it takes 100% of cpu even on the best computers. If disabled it will lock your system.

Of course it's a CPU hog, it's a virus scanner. Virus scanners are pretty much CPU hogs by definition. That said, so are virii, so for my part, I'll take the scanner thanks.

if avgrsx.exe is hogging resources and effectively disabling your pc ...
First, you will have to stop it's execution so that you can fix the problem. To stop it, just go to task mgr [be patient ... it could take a while to get there while avgrsx is still active]. Find the avgrsx process and terminate it.
Now you can solve the problem. just right-click on the AVG icon on your desktop and select properties. Then:
general tab ...
advanced button ...
un-check the box "For fast searching etc."
click on all of the OK buttons

it is not internet security, it is a file scanner that automatically scans files before you open and close, therefore making every part of you high speed computer uselessly slow.

Jim, you can stop it from running by disabling AVG Watchdog in \"services\". Go to Task Manager and end all the processes associated with AVG, avgwdsvc.exe, avgtray.exe, avgmc.exe and finally avgrsx.exe; the most difficut to stop. You may have to end several other services as it is difficult to end even with stopping all the other processes associated with it. Additionally, you may have to try ending the process repeatedly. I have found that shutting down ALERTSrc.exe and Task Manager, itself for a few moments, refresh your desktop and return to TM. It should have stopped; BUT, if not a few times resorting the Image Name column may do it, or you may have to end TM once again and that should stop it. Technically you are rendering AVG useless as it is now completely shut down. While this is helpful for temporarily disabling AVG for installation of other software, it won\'t uninstall it. You can only do that by uninstalling AVG altogether. The only other option, is to see if you can find an older version whose lifecycle has not ended, but I think with every version they put out, they discontinue further updates once they are sure there are no serious bugs in the new version. If it is using too many of your system resources, I would suggest you find another AV program that isn\'t a resource hog.
