isass.exe with an small caps L is a vital windows process and nt a virus. However viruses go under the name Isass.exe(Note this is an I not L) so they appear as vital windows process and not a virus.

I made the mistake of deleting it from my registry thinking it was the virus instead of the virus being inside the thread. Now I realize that lsass is a needed component. So far all that I have noticed is that I can\'t search my C: drive.
Anyone know where to download a clean copy of lsass since my laptop didn\'t come with an installation CD.

lsass.exe
Command: C:\\Windows\\lsass.exe
Description: Added by the W32/Tilebot-IU worm and IRC backdoor. This infection should not be confused with the legitimate C:\\Windows\\System32\\lsass.exe file. W32/Tilebot-IU spreads to other network computers by exploiting common buffer overflow vulnerabilities, including RealVNC (CVE-2006-2369) and by copying itself to network shares protected by weak passwords.

Without it,your system will not run. Malware attacks its vulnerabilities, which is why everyone thinks it\'s malware. Scanners only display lsass.exe being infected, but it\'s a thread inside the process that\'s the malware.
