The update.exe process is a part of the Spyware Doctor Internet Security Product, which is used to protect computer system against Internet threats, virus/trojan, malware and other malicious access.

Other instance of update.exe:

1) The update.exe process can also be a part of the W97M.Exedrop downloader. It comes bundled with a virus or spyware and downloads other viruses/spyware to your computer.

2) The update.exe process can also be a file added by the W32/Sdbot-OS worm. It can connect to an IRC server where it sits on a channel awaiting commands.

Recommendation:

The update.exe process is not an essential file to the system performance. Disabling it or enabling it is down to the user's options.
